Sunshowers Yesterday
Despite the clouds being overhead during business hours, the afternoon and evening did turn out to be quite nice. When I was driving home from the office, I got caught underneath one cloud that was dripping down pretty good. There were actually one or two spots you could see in the sky where the rain was falling, but almost everywhere else was blue sky or white, non-threatening clouds.

I thought that was picture worthy as I was sitting and waiting for the advance green to turn for me. It was only in a 100m stretch that I accumulated all that rain on the windshield... typical Calgary weather. At least it's supposed to get nice for the weekend.
Yesterday was payday and rent day for me... got the ol' paycheque and such, so my plan for the evening was pretty straight forward. Get home, get to the bank, get money, drop blank CD and my New Pornographers mix off for Ashley and then get home for an early one. Pretty good plan... let's see how that works out.
When I got home, Jen was laid up on the couch, pretty much out of it. She sort of came to when I walked through the door, but was more keen on just lying there in a daze. I wasn't in a big hurry to go out and get everything done, 'cuz I wasn't sure when Ashley was going to start work, so I hung around and re-organized a good bunch of my CDs. Since Jen moved around everything in the living room, she messed up where all my CDs were, so I sat down and fiddled around with them for a little while, whilst watching whatever show she had left on the TV.
I finished that up and then grabbed everything I needed for my errand walk and headed out the door. I walked over to the bank, took out rent, deposited my cheque, so my banking was complete. I should actually do some more bill paying now while I'm in front of the computer as well... that'd make me feel a bit better.
Next up was the Yardhouse... I walked in and Cory was behind the bar and the new day bartender, Dan, was finished up and having a quick drink before taking off. So, I sat next to him for a bit. There was one girl working at the time and it wasn't Ashley, so I hung out for a while. The Martina Hingis match was on TV, as was the Jays and Red Sox, so I had no problems sticking around a little longer... especially since Jen was thinking that she was coming down with something. She can keep her germs to herself. I sat for three and by the end, the whole crew for the evening showed up, including Ashley. I gave her the CDs and she was quite pleased, saying that I was very 'on the ball.' Hey, what can I say?
The good laugh there was Cory trying to save his pizza that was in the back waiting for him from the clutches of Ashley. Ashley had come up to the bar and asked Cory if it was his pizza in the back... and he turns, looks at me and says, 'no, it's his.' With an inquisiting look, Ash looks over and I'm nodding my head saying yeah. Perplexed, she walks away. Cory then turns to me and says, if I told her it was mine, she'd eat it... or take the toppings and eat those. I laughed and told him... well, don't tell her it's mine... she'll eat it too. So, she kept coming back to me asking me if it was my pizza or not... so I was a little more tight lipped, not saying anything at all. I was trying my best not to let the two or two-and-a-half beers make me burst out laughing... she came back two or three times asking me this. Finally, I thought of a joke that I could play on Cory, since he put me in the middle of this. So, I call Ashley over, admit the pizza isn't mine and tell her to get an empty pizza box for me to walk out with. Instead of going right away, she asks if it's Cory's... I say yeah and she asks, 'does he not want anyone to eat it.' My clever retort was, 'no, he doesn't want you to eat.' Well, that ruined it right there... the joke, I mean. 'Cory! Why don't you want me to eat your pizza.' I couldn't save it... it was already lost. The inevitable, 'oh thanks, Clayton' came... I tried to explain the idea for the joke, which later he thought would have been mildly funny. D'oh. To top it all off, Ash comes back from taking more orders and says, 'just for the record, if it was your pizza (looking at me), I would have eaten it too.' There was a 'told ya so' moment that I had to take advantage of.
The big disappointment of the afternoon was that Martina Hingis was knocked out of the US Open. I'm a big fan of Martina and was super-pleased when she returned to the Tour this year. With her and Sharapova actually looking like women, they're matches are a little more esthetically pleasing to watch, not to mention the quality of tennis they play. When Hingis really splashed out onto the tennis scene, I had really started to watch a lot of the Grand Slams on a regular basis and she was always so much fun, if not the hottest one at the time, to watch. She was never really overpowering by any means, but she never looked like she had a sex change either... *cough*WilliamsBrothers*cough*. So, I had high hopes for Hingis, but it wasn't to be this year. Ah well. At least Sharapova is still in it.So, I finished up the last of the three beers, walked over to Safeway for a salad mix and milk for Jen and it was home for me. The beers really took it out of me, especially since it was so early in the evening when I got back. So, I picked out a few more CDs to rip for Ashley's mix CD, watched Restaurant Makeover with Jen, Tom called to say the wind-up party is the weekend after this one, since no one will be around for it and that was pretty much my night. I was in bed by 10pm... asleep by 10:30pm... fantastic.
Jen was up first this morning and got into the shower... so I didn't get to have one this morning. That was okay though... it's only Friday. I'll have one when I get home and get on Chris' nerves. Heh heh.
I need to make one more post today... I had eluded to this news that I'll post later on at the beginning of the month, but never got around to posting it, but I'll have to today. So keep your eyes peeled, if you want to know.
