Smashing

Last night's feature was 2005's Brick. Chris and I finally got a chance to watch it, as a copy finally returned to Blockbuster. This is one hell of a movie. Now, the only real thing that was memorable about the trailer was the visuals and maybe one or two of the lines. It doesn't really leave you with the plot of the movie. Neither Chris and I really knew what this movie was about, but we knew that we wanted to see it. And man, talk about not being disappointed.

I'm not really a guy that tries to depict everything as it happens. Sometimes I do manage to do that, but that's when a movie is slap-you-in-the-face obvious. Then it's just not enjoyable. Brick is a well-paced movie that doesn't slow down... even in the slower parts. The dialogue is quick and catchy and the story just works. It's goin' straight into the DVD collection.

"Where have you been eating lately?"

Jen was out and about last night, I actually thought she was working. Nevertheless, the house was empty, so I invited Chris, who had rented Brick, to come upstairs and watch it and he did. We were doing so well... up until there was 20 minutes left. Then, storming through the door... Jen bursts in and proclaims that she needs the DVD player for 2 minutes to show Betty something. Ummmmm... how 'bout no. Man, that's annoying.

When the movie finally ended, Chris and I were not sticking around, rather we headed for the pub. On our arrival, Gerald was sitting at the bar enjoying one... Lee was behind the bar again and so we sat down and shot the shit for a while. Before we even finished our first beer, Lee had set down a Guinness that he mistakenly poured in front of me... and we had two shots. Chris was absolutely amazed, continually quoting that he had to work the next morning... or that he'd have to work in 'so-many' hours. It was kind of a gong show... I had 3 beers and 4 shots... Chris had 2 beers and 4 shots... Gerald... who knows. He was pretty liquified by the time we got there.

It was a pretty good night all around.
