Starful of Treelings
Good morning all... since I updated the weekend already, I'm really sort of left with nothing to go on. However, I did listen to the new Hawksley Workman disc, Treeful of Starling, all the way through again this morning and well... maybe some of you who continue to search for it on my site will want to read it.
If you're familiar with his previous works, which I'd imagine you are or else you wouldn't be searching for the new disc, Treeful of Starling takes a step away from his pop building blocks he had perfected with Lover/Fighter.
Starling is a very low-key, subtle disc which would make for good ballroom dancing. It was certainly nice as a Monday morning disc for the drive into work, especially if you're not looking for the stress that compounds from the traffic, annoying radio show hosts and/or the screaming kids in the backseat... all of which wasn't really a problem for me this morning, especially only since I manage to run into one of the three problems (and let me tell you, it isn't the kids!).
There isn't a real catchy pop tune on here, which will make this disc sort of fade into obscurity... not that it made a big bang in the first place. Without any songs like Striptease or Anger As Beauty, Treeful of Starling will be generally enjoyed by the people who listen to Hawksley on a regular basis and go see his shows... there should be a general appreciation throughout his fan base of what he has accomplished on this disc.
There... that's all that needs to be said about that this morning.
Well, there isn't any plans for the week thus far... probably don't see any happenings at all in the near future. Probably just gonna be a nice & quiet week... rent some movies or something all week. That might be a good idea. I guess I'll find Crash, since it won Best Picture at the Oscars last night. I haven't seen it yet... so, it may be worth a peek.
