Here I Go A Cavalierin'

"So they say you're trouble boy
because you like to destroy
things that bring the idiots joy
well what's wrong with a little destruction."
- The Fallen by Franz Ferdinand

I've had this tune in my head for the last few days... man, that new album rules all!

Somewhat of an exciting weekend since leaving the office @ 9pm on Friday night. Fred & Nancy took me for a bite to eat after they picked me up to go home and that was pretty much the bulk of the evening. Nothing terribly spectacular.

Saturday was a day out in town with the folks. The parental units wanted to go kill some time in town before heading over to Chris & Dale's for dinner. The initial thought was that we'd head into town, do some shopping and head home before heading down to Sundance for a while in the evening. Dinner with family wasn't quite on my priority list of things to do for the evening, so I thought maybe I'd try to skip it...

We managed to get up to a few things during the day and then we did a little bit of car shopping. (Sorry Bill, if you knew how far I was from work... in -30 degree weather, a bike won't be well suited). Went to a few used car lots to check and see what I'd be up against. There wasn't a lot in the General Motors range that was well-suited or well-priced for my budget. I did end up test driving a '94 Pontiac Grand Prix... it was fairly cheap... but there were reasons for it being so cheap. No brakes for one... not many working lights at the back. It couldn't pass a safety inspection to save it's life.

By about 5pm, we had gone to 5 or 6 lots... finding nothing. Instead of heading home though, I was caught in the car as we headed down to the South of Calgary. Crap. I did have great dreams of catching Hockey Night In Canada at the Wildfire, as Theresa had mentioned that she'd be having the night off and watching the hockey game. D'oh!

We got down to the house and had a good meal... played with the boys a bit and it wasn't too bad. Did get to watch a bit of hockey when I wasn't being entertained by my little cousins.

The best thing about visiting the boys and the Aunt & Uncle, is that when the boys are heading off to bed... we're outta there! I'm sounding awfully terrible here aren't I? Hmmm... dammit. 'tis the truth though... I'm not gonna lie to you.

We were outta there by the middle of the second period of the Avalanche/Canucks game... I had my fingers crossed I'd be at the bar for the beginning of the third. As it turned out, I was spot on! I grabbed myself a chair in front of the projection screen, there were a few familiar faces around... Marni was serving, but no Reese, AJ or even Theresa. Disappointment faded when I saw the Canucks had gone up 3-1 before the end of two periods.

I was in my element... in the bar... hockey on the big screen... and a pretty girl bringin' beer. I could probably do that forever. As if that'd ever happen all the time... hockey doesn't run through the summer.

The Canucks almost gave me a coronary that night... up 5-1 midway through the third and then they just ceased to play... or play well at least. Colorado scored 3 goals in a small span of time in the third as if the grond opened up and swallowed the Canucks defensive ability up. Luckily, my boy Linden potted an empty-netter late in the dying seconds to have a reasonable final... 6-4. I'm not proud of that win... but it's 2 points in regulation against a division rival... so I'll take it.

After the game had finished up... I made my way to the bar where John & Ben were and started drinking with them. Well, that turned to a shit-facing in a hurry. Pints of Keith's and Jaegerbombers... not to mention a shot of Scorpion Tequila (part of Greg's special collection) all went down a treat. Since I got there a bit later, I didn't end up breaking the bank on it and did alright. So well in fact... I was a dancing machine and also did my best lip-syncing and dance routine to Tenacious D's "Fuck You Gently." I chuckle each time I think about that... it probably would have been embarrasing to some... but I think I'm cool with it.

The end of the night came a little too soon... I walked Ben home... I think. I'm pretty sure I had left with him, he was super-bombed. After leaving his company, I called up Barry on the phone and was chatting with him. We chatted and chatted as I walked home... you know, I don't think I walked Ben home, he may have had something sorted out in the end. I forget. Anyways, I was chatting with Barry for most of the way home... when I got in front of the driveway, I realized that I hadn't let Lex back in from her day out roaming. I let her out on the assumption that'd we'd had come home before going back out again... so instead of getting home right away, I thought I'd go let Lex in.

Still chatting with Barry, I opened up the garage door and let myself in the house. I closed the garage door behind me and went in. I opened up the back door a crack and sat down and turned on the big screen. Only by then did I finish my chat with Barry... a good 22 minute chat in the end, crikey! The cat eventually came in... but I was pretty convinced that I'd stay the night on the couch downstairs, 'cuz Chelsea/Everton was on the TV in the morning. So, after watching a few more highlights on the tube... I switched on the alarm on my phone to be awake in time for kick-off and fell asleep on the couch.

My head just pounded when the White Stripes came over the alarm... Blue Orchid to be exact. Either it was the shots that I had or it was the amount of cat hair I was sleeping in. The latter could be more of the fact, 'cuz I'm finding the older I get, the more allergic I'm getting to the fluff balls.

It tooke me an extra half hour, 45 minutes to get myself sorted out before I sat up and turned the TV on. I managed to catch the second half of the match, including Lampard's equalizer... which as it stood was the only goal I was gonna see. After the game finished up, I headed back home.

The units were getting themselves ready to head out to Strathmore to get some groceries. I was in no state to go out at all. I was still partially drunk, I was sore from all that dancing and not clean at all. So, Mom handed me a copy of the Ads from the Calgary Herald with a couple circled ads. They looked pretty good... a '93 Chevy Cavalier and a '92 Pontiac Sunfire. The Cavalier was more in my budget, so I did decide to call. It rang and rang and rang... no answer. 'Hmmmm... I'll call back later,' I thought.

The folks then took off and I was left to my own devices for the morning. Thank goodness... I was still in need of unwinding from unwinding the night before.

About an hour later... I ended up getting a phone call from the number I dialled for the Cavalier. The guy was calling me back... he was down in Okotoks watching his grandson play hockey and didn't hear his phone going off. We chatted for a bit and made arrangements to meet up once the parents showed up and I was able to make it out to see it.

The short of the long of it all was that we went out to Chestermere to see the car... and it was pretty sweet. I gave Paul $300 for a small deposit as he said the phone was ringing off the hook for it... and he'll deliver it to me tomorrow and I'd have the rest of the dough for it.

Woo hoo!! I have purchased wheels. Picture to come tomorrow, I'm sure.

Anyways... clock has just ticked past 11pm... and I should hit the hay! Later all!
