Better Than The Holidays!
I'll re-iterate my claims from 1am this morning... the Arcade Fire were awesome.
Despite having some serious feedback from one microphone or the first couple songs, their performance was just what I could have expected. But the crowd... the crowd was better than I expected.
When the AF stepped out onto the stage and started into 'Wake Up,' a great portion of the crowd (certainly not the whole) erupted into the 'Ooooooh ooooooh oooooooh' humming intro into the words and it was quite electric. There was a guy right behind me for the show and we were both singing & yelling the words as the evening progressed... 'twas awesome.
'Une Annee Sans Lumiere,' 'Laika,' 'No Cars Go,' 'Crown of Love' were all performed with great vigor as all the band members were up front and accounted for, except for the drummer, who was raised on his platform. Through the set, everyone switched instruments and switched positions on the stage, nothing was ever stale.
A great rendition of Bruce Springsteen's, 'State Trooper' was played with the singer of Wolf Parade, one of their supporting acts. It got a great rise out the crowd as it was given a great folk feel with the violin and piano accompanyment.
A killer live performance of both 'Power Out' and 'Rebellion (Lies)' was what I was waiting for... and boy, oh boy, I wasn't disappointed. Needless to say, I was jumping around like a friggin' madman on Pop Rocks and all-syrup squishees. Screaming & singing & yelling... it was a good thing Rob bought bottles of water.
Incredible...
The encore was 'Tunnels' and a New Order cover... I'm not a big New Order fan by any means, so I don't actually know what the song was... but I am waiting to see the review on the net to find out what it was. Then I'll probably go download it or something.
What a fantastic evening... well worth the extra-long setup session with some fat guy trying out almost every guitar on stage... which there were a few.
Am I sore this morning?? Not really... legs are pretty tired. Voice is still around... didn't get enough sleep though. Rob & I stopped in at the Wildfire for a beer and the NHL highlights before heading home.
I'm pretty sure I was sleepwalking again last night... I knocked a pile of DVDs over in my room n my dreams, which eventually woke me up, trying to figure out what I was doing in the first place. Once I had my senses back... it was back to sleep for me. I'm gonna try and find somewhere to take a nap...
Okay, maybe not.
