What's This White Crap?
Let me just start this morning by saying that I have already seen snow... a few flakes had fallen on the way into to work this morning. It's October 3rd!! What the hell is this all about? I'm gonna call up that Mother Nature Hotline and give her a piece of my mind!! It's a 1-900 number, right?
To the weekend's activities, I guess... and Bill, you're only partially right... there wasn't any fake fires... but there certainly was drunk chicks, people smoking and I'm sure there was some country music over the loud speaker at some time... how much is tough to say.
Finally, it had become Draft Day at the Wildfire. There wasn't gonna be any stoppage of drafting, I was sure that there was gonna be enough people to do even a smaller one... but there was gonna be one regardless. Counting in my head, we should have had over 20 people show up to do the draft, but unfortunately, we only ended up with 12 people there to do it. Kind of a shame, really... there was a lot of prep work done, but the lucky 12 got a damn good draft day instead of a long drawn out one.
When everyone had arrived and had sat themselves down, I had put 12 numbers in a hat for the draw. I started at one end of the table and let everyone pick down the line. Reese & AJ at the end picked their numbers first, Doug, Don, Debbie & John were at that end, so they drew... Gord, Pa, Suzanne & Rob all drew and I waited for Greg, who was attending to some bar business before drafting pick. I entered who had drawn into the program and we found that pick numbers 1 & 4 were left in the hat.
Everyone was kind of biting their lip in anticipation of who was gonna get the first pick out of the two of us... no one was gonna tell Greg what was actually in the hat, that way he wouldn't know what kind of pressure he was under. He ended up fourth... and we laughed. Only then did we tell them that the number one pick was left in the hat.
"I had it in my hand!" he exclaimed.
So, yes... the Sherpa's Yaks (my team, of course) had first pick overall in the draft. Cries of 'fix!' and 'cheat!' rang through the air, but my only reply was that 'it's not my fault that all of you suck!' Ha ha ha... and so the trash talk began!
Well, the draft was kind of a blur... since there was only 12 teams picking 10 players each, the draft went by super-quick. From Markus Naslund as number one to Dan Hamhuis as 120, the draft itself took just about an hour. My draft program worked a cinch and everyone was pretty pleased with their teams. Since there was only 120 players taken, even some of the first-timers really couldn't go too wrong with who they picked in the pool, so each team (barring injuries) should be rather competitive. I've gotta say though... I'm really impressed with my team. I'm out to hit the proverbial home run with a couple of my picks, but I have confidence in 'em!
The best part about draft day was that quite a few of the bunch stuck around and remained social for a while. Everyone was drinkin' and bein' merry for the evening. A couple of the missuses came down to join later in the evening, including Ma... and we all got rather inebriated. Surprised? Didn't think so.
I suppose the highlights were Michelle, Suzanne & Ma trying to prod me on and asking our then server, Marny (spelling? yeah, I have no idea), to go with me to the Arcade Fire. You know, I couldn't really say no to that idea... 'cuz she is pretty cute too. I hadn't seen Theresa all week down there and time is running out, so to speak.

I did end up asking in the end, but she said that she had to work Wednesday night. I think I tried to negotiate her trying to get the night off... maybe I was a little drunker than I thought... nah. I could help in the negotiation process at least. I'm in with the manager... if there's anyone who could do it, it'd be me. Hell, he owes me since I made a little switcheroo for a mistake he made in the drafting process.
I'm a little perplexed at what the status was on the idea of actually making plans was... I will have to investigate it a little further. I need to go down to the bar to get a copy of their logo for the Hockey Pool Domain, I will be posting the standings of the hockey pool on there from time to time. I best me makin' it look good, right? Yeah, I think so too.
So we drank... and we laughed... and we played pool. All was well come the end of the night. It was sort of the case until Rob and Ron were playin' two guys at pool... and these two guys were not the best of drunks. One was absolutely steaming drunk... falling over drunk, more like it... and the other was not the smoothest of talkers, but tried anyways. Unfortunately, Rob was getting to the point of 'if they want to cause trouble, then I'll be the guy they'll do it with.' That was especially the case when the steamer fell off of his stool and in frustration of the fall, smashed his pint glass into the side of the pool table. Rob wasn't overly pleased by this display and was still kind of hovering around the two drunks... but we paid up and left shortly after the drunks were sort of escorted out by Greg.
Unfortunately, the walk home didn't do much good for Rob... he was getting more and more angry at the idea that he didn't do something and Michelle and I trying to calm him down only seemed to make things worse. As we were in the park, halfway home, Rob all of a sudden stopped and didn't continue to walk with us. Michelle and I just kept on going... I have yet to find out how or when he actually got home.
And that was pretty well the Saturday night out... here, I'll include a picture of Pa, since I uploaded it on Photobucket...

Sunday was far more tame than Saturday was... we went off to see Cousin Josh play his first exhibition hockey game of the year... to determine what level of league their team will play in. They got creamed by a team much better than they. Then it was dinner & cake for my Grandmother's birthday. She was in town and I got to see her for the first time since leaving for England. That was really nice.
Josh, Dale, Pa and myself did our own little hockey pool, just to get Josh interested in the game. We all picked a whole bunch of players and had ourselves a good time. That way Josh can check up on the Pool Domain and see how his team is doing. Fun stuff.
Well, the light is starting to shine outside and I best be getting wome work done. The snow and rain is coming down at the same time outside. If there is anymore snow, I'll have to take some pictures to post on here. Anyways... that's the weekend and there should be an entertaining week to come!

Mother Nature?!! Arggh! Swiss James found, stole, then proceeded to break the Weather Machine. This is a true story, I swear!
Oh, and Mark asked me to tell you, "Tag! You're It!"
What is this "snow" of which you speak? Today, it was 103°F here in the Valley of the Sun. I haven't enjoyed snow since driving back from San Diego in January of 2001.
Thanks for stopping by!
