Done!
Wow... I finally caught up. There was lots to do, which I thought would take me much more into the day than just half past 1pm. Thank goodness.
So yeah... the move went pretty well on Sunday. Dad and I packed up the truck with my bed, end-table and other large bits that would be more difficult to move in the car and drove it into Sunnyside. By the time most of the big stuff was in my room, there wasn't a great deal of room to move. But by the time my futon was put together and some shelving built, it's surprising how much space I have left in there. I would never have imagined it.
Outside in Calgary on Sunday was pretty shitty. Windy, rainy and even a little snowy from time to time. I didn't think we'd be doing too much practicing for ball, but when Munden called and told me that we were still goin' to the cages at 4pm, I was still pretty excited. Hell, I was looking forward to fielding some grounders and takin' some swings on Sunday. Shit, I was pretty rusty in that tournament.
Unfortunately, I didn't really plan on doing too much driving too and from Langdon, but Munden's car was pretty fucked and needed a ride to the cages. So, I packed up some other shit and picked him up.
By the time we had dropped the stuff off at the house and made it to the cages, the wind had died down a bit, the precipitation was gone and it wasn't too bad outside to swing the bat. We each got about 80 pitches to swing at over the 90 minutes and now I'm beginning to see the ball quite a bit better. I think with the next round of cage time this weekend, I should be ready to play some better ball in the first league game on Monday.
A stop at Joey's in the NE for a couple with Munden, dinner with the folks, picked up another box of stuff and that was that... the move had ended. I should be back through the week to sort out the rest of the crap for the garage sale on Saturday. Fun stuff!
The drive yesterday to work was actually pretty good. Leaving Kensington/Sunnyside on Memorial Drive doesn't take too long at all. I think my travel time was actually under 10 minutes both today and yesterday. So, can't complain about that.
Work yesterday was quite taxing... there was quite a bit going on. I came in to find a filing, that wasn't very hard, incomplete. Then from the same client (a law firm that deals with quite a few companies) came similar financial statements and management notes that needed to be done for today (Tuesday). All sorts of other stuff came in as well yesterday... so the feeling of being behind the 8-ball really hit home. Lee was going to be busy with deadlines for SEDAR filing and Devin wasn't going to be in until the afternoon... so, the nose found the grindstone and the day flew past.
There were quite a few discussions about the incomplete work that Devin had left... a lot of questions why it wasn't done and when could it be done. Oh, the joys of supervising. I opened up those similar filings, all done by the same people, and found that there was a bit of extra work, but I could polish them off in just over an hour. Needless to say again, I did get everything that needed to be done done and then once Devin got in, I sat down with him and gave him another go at our PDF conversion software.
4:30pm came fairly quickly... and I was off home. Jen was making dinner and inviting people to the house for 5:30pm. The drive home from work isn't too great. It'll take about 20+ minutes to sit through traffic and finally end up home. That's kinda crappy... but once I'm rollerblading again, then traffic won't matter too much.
Jen, Carly and Jen's best friend, Tony were all sitting in the kitchen by the time I had pulled up to the house. Then there was more to come... Shannon, Lee, Natasha, Chris and damn... I forgot that one guy's name. It's in the Tales somewhere. Jen had made a roast dinner, which was pretty darn good, I must say. There was also a trip to the liquor store for more beer, a case of Keith's, which I ended up finishing, I think last night. Man, did I ever get really, really drunk.
Then I woke up again... it was morning. I wasn't hurting too bad... just a tad queezy... no headache, thankfully. The drive to work this morning was a tad sketchy... I kinda wish there was an easier way to get onto Memorial Drive from 8th Street... but, it would involve going west to 10th Street and then backtracking on Memorial. That would kinda suck.
I had arrived at the office to see that next to nothing was done again. The effort was sure put in last night... especially since nothing else came in for the deadline on SEDAR, so there was tons of time to do something. I wasn't amused. So... back on the grindstone for my nose. I couldn't really concentrate this morning... with the queezyness and mild-still-being-drunk-ness. But I soldiered on... went for a slurpee at 11am... felt much better.
And that brings us to now.
BIG NEWS OF THE DAY!!
Devin handed in his resignation letter today. I got to see it too... since I was carbon copied on it. Oh man, it made me laugh something fierce. The Tales even got mentioned... no... "quoted" in it several times. It's almost a feeling of fame... in a professional sense.
It was quite funny as he had written that I didn't think that he was reading the Tales, since I was writing all what I wrote. Funny... 'cuz I had found his Blog ages ago, didn't really read too much... there wasn't much to read. I knew he was a Blogger too... and pretty sure that he'd find the Blog through the hockey pool site. Not exactly shocking. And to think, I even pulled a few punches on here from being thrown. I could have been a lot more harsh and critical of him... but I knew he'd be around. So, I kept it light... useless comments and everybody talking about him comments.
I almost have to apologize for holding all that other stuff in. I mean, this should be a count of ALL the Tales of the Opiated Sherpa... not the select few.
So, an ode to Devin... like the Meathead, Troy and Hideo before him... farewell. You won't be missed. Your average of an hour to do a filing... disappears. Your decisions away from my "anal-retentive" tracking system... abolished. Your attention deficit disorder... hey look... something shiny! If I could drink another beer today, I'll cheers to your departure.I'm sure we'll pass each other in Kensington... it's not that big of an area.
Shiny!!
