Up Somewhat Early

Surprisingly, I was in Blogger all day yesterday, but I didn't get a post on the Tales at all. I was too busy working on the playoff pool, which looks mighty good, I must say now. There are a few finished sheets out there still, which are okay by me... good, trustworthy people.

It was such a slow day in the office yesterday, that I was actually able to concentrate quite a bit of the day in the playoff pool. It's quite a bit of work setting these things up, but its so totally worth the effort in the end.

It was the first game of the First Pitch Tournament last night as well. Got to the park nice & early to warm up and had an okay first game of the season. Fast pitch is so incredibly different that actual baseball and barely comparible to slow pitch... but it was still good. In the top half of the first inning, Andrew (played third base) and I turned an opening 5-4-3 double play, which was made a little easier when the batter gave up running not long after taking off from the batters box. We'll take it though. In the five innings we played, that was pretty much the only real action I saw in the infield. At bat, I was just standing in there to get a feel for the pitching and if I could get on base, it'd be a bonus. For some reason though, I was put in the second slot in the batting order, really expecting to be closer to the bottom, which would have been preferrable. Nevertheless, I went 0 for 2, both times striking out. I probably could have left the third strike on the second at-bat alone, but I was swingin' away.

The second game goes at noon... I'll probably have to take off from the house in an hour or so. It's way the hell across town too... so, it'll take me a bit to get over there.

After the ball game, I went and met the boys at the Landing. I tried to give Barb a call, she said she was off at nine and would like to have met up. But... her phone was off. Bah! Anyways, watched the Flames beat the Ducks in overtime... the crowd in the Landing was cheering like it was Game 7 of the Finals. Long ways to go yet, lads. I could understand our table cheering loudly... Benny and I were "quacking" through most of the 3rd period... especially when the Ducks tied it up. Ha ha. Benny's Red Wings had won... so he was a happy camper. My reply to that... "FORE!!!"

Game 2 goes on Sunday night... should be a good one.

Thursday night, before I forget was pretty much just collecting all the sheets and monies for the Playoff Pool. I had gone down to Riverbend to meet up with Randy and have a couple... then to the Wildfire for a couple and pick up 8 or 10 sheets... then over to the Landing for Pepsis and another two sheets. Jeff put together his stupid little pool on Thursday night as well. It's not really a pool... just a vacuum for $20, moreso.

Everyone had the option of buying two teams, $20 a piece, winner would have the team that wins the Cup at the end of the year. Everyone has a different team. It's really dumb as there is no handicap for lesser teams... if your name got drawn for the last team to be picked, generally meaning the least favourite to win it all, you still paid $20. Plus, depending on where your name is drawn, there was no way you were gonna get the team you were cheering for in the first place, meaning that it wasn't going to be an enjoyable pool if you, let's say, didn't end up with the Detroit Red Wings, eh Benny?

Nevertheless, Jeff had to have his pool... must be a sign of uber-coolness to run one... which it isn't. It's rather nerdy, if you ask me... and I run them all the time! Fortunately, for me... I ended up with the third pick and I chose the New Jersey Devils. It might be a dumb pool, but I won't say no to $320.

Well, apparently its snowing again outside. Langdon and Calgary has been hit with some of the white stuff... this after having a +24 day outside. It's gone from this...

Errrrrr bleck! I'm hoping that ball isn't cancelled today... but ya never know. It is Calgary after all. Well, until I get a phone call... I'm still heading out to the ball park. It shouldn't be too bad... just a little cooler than normal.

Well... until tomorrow, I suppose... I'll see if I can get some more pictures then. We'll see how that goes. Catch ya later!
