Golden Evening
Way to go, lads!! The win was so well deserved after all the hard work and perserverance to get there. The Canadian U20 Junior Team defeated Team Russia convincingly 5-0 for back-to-back gold medals!!
It was such a great game too... the score didn't really reflect the entire game. By no means did Canada walk away with the medal, but the Russians were defeated around the end of the second. Once the fifth was scored, then they were just hell-bent to break Justin Pogge's shutout.
Benny, Pa and myself watched the game down at the Wildfire... and yes, I was drinking a bit. So, the streak ended and a meek 4.5 days. I dunno, I think it was sort of worth it. This is my favourite ice hockey tournament in the world and seeing the Maple Leaf in the final, just gets me so revved up.
It also gets me excited to see the Canucks number one pick in the 2005 draft, Luc Bourdon, play so well throughout the tournament. I wish he could join the Canucks right now. They definitely need him on the blueline. Big, quick & great with the puck... I wonder if he did finish the tournament leading the team in shots on goal. He was at some point.
I was all decked out in red last night, my 2002 Olympic jersey, Team Canada hat, my red shoes, Team Canada long-sleeved shirt underneath and my 9' Canada Flag came with me to the bar too. It all had to be done. It's pretty much the same outfit, except for the shoes, that I wore at the gold medal game in Helsinki a couple years ago. Without the face paint of course.
Congrats again, fellas!! You did us all proud.
