Recap This...

I didn't think I would make it this morning through the networking problems this morning, but I'm online and ready to go. Stupid routers... what good are they anyways?

Despite having to wear a few layers of bug spray on yourself to ward off the mosquitoes, yesterday was too nice of a day to be sitting inside writing. Although, since I'm in Langdon, yesterday was almost a waste of a nice day, because there really isn't anything to do. I managed to amuse myself outside with a baseball glove, tennis ball, baseball, softball and hockey stick for the greater part of the afternoon.

That was until a few of the neighbours saw that the garage door was open and Dad and I had a beer in hand, so they decided to walk on over, except for Lee, who was in his rascal. General rule of the neighbourhood: Garage door open + Beer = Party (or small gathering). That was a rule that was told to me quite a while back, but this was the first time in 2 weeks that it came to fruition. It made for a better afternoon, for sure. I got to meet a few more of the neighbours, Ron & Suzanne and their 12 year old as well... good people. Fortunately enough, they are on the neighbourhood slow-pitch team and they said, come out... WOO HOO!

The mosquitoes in the afternoon weren't too bad. I think all day, I was quite fortunate not to get bit. Some of those bugs will even force their way through the bug spray to try and take a chunk outta you. I certainly still had to beat them off with a stick. Okay, so it wasn't quite a stick... I was swatting them with my hand... but a stick sounds better, doesn't it? Mom thought it would be a good idea, since she had a whole load of veil material from Tegan's wedding still left in the garage that she'd put some underneath her hat.

Sometimes, I worry about her. Somebody's got to.

By about 6pm, I had already caught quite a bit of sun. It's probably the most time that I've spent outside in quite a while. I think I was just radiating heat from my reddish skin. I certainly wasn't going to become cold at any time soon.

The ball game was at 7pm and Dad was fixing a ham for dinner, but he started it way too late for me to get any before ball. That's okay though, the heat sort of took away the appetite. You know, I bet that could be a good diet idea. Make a couple fat camps in ridiculously hot places and then challenge people to actually eat. Hmmmm... if anything, it would just be a vacation for some people if it didn't work. Sorry, thinking out loud again. Anyways, packed up my ball bag and headed out the door.

Since this was the neighbourhood block team I was going to be playing for, I pretty much got to meet the gist of the block in one big gathering. Excellent! Everyone seemed rather nice and what not, you can kind of pick out the social underdogs of the group, but all in all they were quite nice. Not much for ball players though, but hey... I'm just out to throw the ball. Win, lose... it didn't really matter. It's quite funny, one of the most competitive guys there (cursin' & swearin' for screwing up, granted he did it to himself as well, a lot), sucked the most.

You'd think that the people who aren't the most skillful would try not to rag on others, even though they rag on themselves. Ah well, another matter for another time.

Now, I thought the mosquitoes were bad around the house and the neighbourhood in general... but when we got on the field... left-centre field was a small standing water pond. I only found this out, because I was sent out to centre to start the game. That's alright, it wasn't my favourite position at short, but like I said, I'm only there to play and I'll play just about anything.

Long story short... the team was pretty bad, although we sort of picked up our socks near the end of the game and probably gave them a good run in the end. I don't know what the score actually finished up, but I'm pretty sure we lost. I got one inning at short, which was okay... picked up a couple tough grounders, unfortunately, not making anything of them. Quite a few pop-flies were reeled in centre and left, one being a nice sliding grab. I think I made my argument for playing a bit more.

Thank goodness for the bug spray though... if I didn't layer it on, I would have been worse off then I actually was. I think there was only a few bites here and there, so I count myself lucky in that sense.

When I got home, I was quite pleased to see that Tales of the Opiated Sherpa cracked the 300 visitors mark for the first time! A whopping 309 visitors to the site yesterday was quite a nice surprise. All that credit surfing has begun to pay off a little bit. I added another autosurf clicker to my credit counter this weekend, Clickism.com.

It's helped. If anything, it gets hits and page loads as well to my site... which also helps. If the logo gets beaten into your brains, then I'm doin' not a bad marketing job. You'll begin to wonder what it actually is after a while, if you haven't been here already.

This week, I'm hoping for a reply from the Yellow Pages. They had a listing in Calgary for Graphic Designers and Ad Layout people. That's me! I can do that! I've done it before! Pleeeease get back to me on that one! Actually, any one of the jobs I applied for over the last couple weeks could gleefully get back to me and I wouldn't hold the time factor against them. Employ me, dammit!

Well, back to the grind for me... hopefully find an employer WHO WANTS TO GET BACK TO ME today and hope for the best. Adios, amigos!
