70 Days Until the Puck Drops...
Hmmmm... day 2 at Millennium and well... I'm not quite comfortable. I know, it probably will get easier. A lot of these things that they are getting me to do are fine, but at the same time, some things I'm still not quite learning.
Today, I was preparing a lot of quotes for single systems for a wide range of needs, I guess you can say. That's alright. Now, they know that my actual hardware knowledge isn't quite up to snuff and that I have a lot of learning to do. Hell, they want me to know what I'm selling... but I'm not quite sure about the compatibility of some items to other items. Motherboards to processors or video cards and stuff like that. These things are probably very simple once I get the hang of it... but I hate not having the hang of it.
Jason & Justin, the two big sales guys that I'm working with... they finally went over a quote I was putting together at 5:55pm... 5 minutes before home time and were saying between the two of them and me overhearing that this doesn't go with this and this should be here... now, okay. That's great and all... but why? And why are you telling me now??? Just before I'm certain to forget. Crap!
Anyways... I should have these things sorted soon. I had a good idea of what the quoting process looked like anyways... but I'm still not quite too sure about some of the nitty-gritty questions that customers may ask of me. I could probably fit a decent machine together, if I was asked to... some things on these quotes looked good and I did show a little initiative to some degree, but I know it could all be better.
I actually had my hands in on putting a machine together today. Is it wrong when one of the guys calls the case for a computer 'sexy?' Man, that's embarrassing. Sure, it's a neat looking case... it was really small. But 'sexy?' Really? Hmmmm... neat, I can handle. Mildly cool... sure. Some computer guys scare me.
Don't get me wrong... they're all really nice. But they are all pretty much cut from the same mold... the mold that they grow for fun in their mother's basements. I shouldn't really be ranting like this about them... 'cuz well, Google is an amazing thing. It can find me... so, I'm sure if they had any idea that I knew how to use the internet, they would try to find me.
At the office, there's Jason, the manager/sales guy... Justin, more of the lead sales guy... Anita, the accountant... Chris, the warehouse and repair guy... and Chad, the lead technician. That's the whole office. Their revenue looks like it could be quite good, from the targets they've laid out for me, when I'm on the go. Overall, the job has potential... but I would be curious to know what some of these Graphic Design and/or Layout jobs would pay. You know... curiosity and all.
Well, that's enough about work.
The last league ball game goes on August 4th. Then the wind-up tournament will go on the 5th and 6th... hopefully the 7th too. I could really go for 4 days of ball... that would be a good finish to my super-short season. I have committed to it, which wasn't really gonna be a problem, I don't think. I'll have to play a lot more next season, I figure. Get myself into some more leagues in Calgary.
The NHL schedule was released today. Man, does it look odd. I looked at the Canucks schedule and they'll play back-to-back games against the same team in the same city. How weird is that? I suppose it cuts down on teams travelling, but it does seem to be rather ridiculous. Ah well... beggars can't be choosers, eh?
October 5th will drop the first puck... all 30 teams in the league play that night. I'm gonna have to find a bar for that. One with 15 feeds on 15 TVs, so I can watch some of each. Hell, probably won't need that many feeds or TVs due to time zone changes... woo hoo! I'll need a hockey overdose, just to kick myself into gear.
Draft Day on Saturday. Also quite exciting. Sidney Crosby will go to Pittsburgh... Anaheim should be dealing their 2nd pick... the Canucks have a good chance at a decent prospect in the 10th spot and there is always a few deals being done on Draft Day. We'll probably see a lot of Restricted Free Agents get moved for qualifying offers on that Saturday or Sunday... right before the market opens on Holiday Monday. Woo hoo! Free Agents all over the place.
Let the feeding frenzy begin!
Anyways, it's another early start tomorrow. Dad has to go into town to make a trip to City Hall before heading up to the Northeast for both of us to get to work. That'll kill some time. Although I didn't mind sitting in the cafe across the street having breakfast for a while. I'm thinking I'll be spending quite a bit of time there. That's alright though... free refills of coffee!
That's it from me tonight... might do a little more reading or go see what boring program the folks are watching on TV. Meh... whatever.
