Roast Beef Is Easy

I always thought making a roast beef dinner was some sort of complicated art form. The recipe was actually fairly easy and straight-forward... that's what I found at least. Mom wanted me to prepare dinner again tonight and there was a pretty good sized roast in the fridge. I was going to go online and surf for a good recipe for preparing a good roast, but then I remembered that Barry had forwarded everyone a copy of Jamie Oliver's Naked Chef 2 cookbook via the e-mail. I looked in there and there was the recipe that I was looking for.

I looked at the recipe and I found that I probably wasn't going to have everything on there, like whole ginger... but I'm pretty good at improvisation. And it paid off!! My roast was pretty much perfect, it has to be said. Roasted red potatoes, halved onions, whole garlic cloves, peas and a red wine gravy. Fantastic! It was actually a fun dinner to make as well.

My favourite dish to make is still chili and I think I make a really good chili. Not too hot, but it does have it's kick. A can of beer goes a long way if you let it all simmer for a couple hours together. Cooking is very enjoyable for me... I could actually live with a woman who doesn't like to cook.

Tonight, I helped Suzanne with her catching skills for this weekend's ball tournament for Langdon Days. She was getting better at tracking the ball and blocking it if she didn't catch it. It'll make for a big improvement for when she mans first base on the field. I was sure making her work tonight. She had to be all over the place to track down some of the balls, because well, a) I'm still a little out of practice and b) it just made good practice, because she'll probably be up against errant throws in the field. Ironically, she was moving a lot more when she was getting tired near the end of the night.

The weekend's tournament actually starts for us tomorrow night at 6:30pm at the local diamonds. It's gonna be good to be competitive for the weekend and aiming to get drunk for most of it as well.

Friday's events seem to be laid out for me by TSN. Starting around noon here in Calgary, TSN will be showing coverage of the NHL getting back on it's feet. I think I will take in the festivities, including the lottery for the Number 1 pick in the entry draft. I am getting more and more excited as the days go on. They should also be announcing what rule changes they will be implementing for next season. A great day to celebrate!

Well, my desire to write much more has faded. I don't really even feel like getting into rants about the news tonight. Maybe tomorrow.
