Another Mad One...
12 days, 20 hours & 43 minutes... I better start walking to Gatwick now.
That turned out to be more of a mad one then expected. Gig, Hog's, Route, Twisters, Route, Lars', Route, Lars', Queen Street, Wormingford.
The Amberblacks sounded really good last night. A fine performance in what could have been the last time I'll see them... for a while anyways. I didn't stick around O'Neills for the Neat People, but catching up with a couple of them later, they said they played alright. My heckling last night proved to be the best bit of comedy in the The Amberblacks show. It's a good laugh when the band pokes fun of me in public, they get the laughs and as the comedian (or saddo), I get laughed at. I laugh too, which is the most important part.
It was kind of a giggle when I made mention to Chris that I should be their 'Bez' and I could almost be considered an artist or part of the band to stay in the country. It's a thought.
After The Amberblacks had finished, I took off to meet Lars in the Hog's for a few and maybe more. He was there with his Dad.
I saw that barmaid again, Kate, and chatted with her when I bought my first drink of the night. She said she'd e-mail me this afternoon when she got back from work. Good, just enough time to do some writing this morning!
There was a couple of guys on Acoustic guitars in the Hog's last night. They were quite good in doing their covers. I didn't catch what their name was, but they were really sharp.
A couple beers and a vodka/red bull later, we were off. We decided that we'd check out the alternative music night at Route. We got down there and the queue was quite long. Plus, Lars asked the bouncer at the door what music it was and he said Jazz of some sort. Well, fuck that... Twisters it is!
We managed to sneak into Twisters for a few. Saw The Amberblacks in there, but Chris didn't stick around for too long after we had gotten there. My favourite (and Lars' too) DJ was spinning discs that night. It's great... he remembers me, a little. He also played the Bees' Chicken Payback for me, YEAH!
Chicken Payback by the Bees could be one of the greatest songs ever written. Well, maybe not... but I tend to think so when I'm dancing around like a lunatic when the song is on. Check out their webpage. I read that their last album "Free the Bees" was just released in Canada. Awesome album!
Twisters finished up... I had a quick word about the Bees with the DJ. His sister runs a pub on the Isle of Wight and knows the Bees quite well. Quite a good chat. He's met them a few times too. Really cool.
Lars and I decided that we'd give Route another try. We walked down there, stood in line only to be rejected because we were wearing shorts. We had nice shorts on as well. So... we ran to Lars' and he lent me a pair of trousers to wear. Wicked. Then we ran back. The queue had disappeared and I thought we may have been too late, but they let us in FINALLY and went upstairs. Inside, it wasn't Jazz night. That bouncer had no idea what he was talking about. Instead it was alternative night and well... I became a dancing machine again.
Andy, the drummer from The Amberblacks was in there with his sister and her mate (who's a pretty fit blonde)... granted saying that, Andy's sister isn't too bad looking either... ha ha. Tune after tune came on and I danced my way into sobriety again. That's a pretty good night I found.
Lucy J was about in the club, granted I knew that before hand 'cuz we had arranged to share a cab to get home. That didn't work out so well, 'cuz after the club had been let out, she disappeared on me, Lars had already gone home, since he had to be up for work in the morning and I was a tad lost. Lars said I could crash at his if I needed to, so I walked over to his and as soon as he opened the door for me at his, Lucy called asking where I was. Dammit! I left Lars to die at his and went back to Queens Street where I found her and her guy for the night, which she then eventually left me on the lurch for, emptied her change purse for about a fiver and I had to find a cab home.
I did manage to find a cab that only charged £12 from town to Wormingford. I was prepared for £20 and since this guy was a lifesaver of sorts, I tipped him £3... I was in that sort of mood last night. I ended up getting in after 3am this morning. Bloody hell... I'll tell ya.
Man, is Lucy in trouble when I see her next.
Let's just hope that today goes a little bit smoother, eh! Hopefully I get rid of the kink in my back that I have. That'd be nice. Hoep to see Kate's e-mail at a reasonable time as well... she still seems rather game to hang out even though I have told her that the wife hunt didn't go so well and it's now off and I'm leaving in 2 weeks. Go figure.
Right, I think I might try and finish off the Homelands Weekend story this morning as well. I'll post a couple more pics and stuff from the weekend and that should pretty much cover my ass in that department. I hope that's been a good read for you guys. Drop a comment in if you did like it.
