First Come, First Serve
Game 1 of the Langdon slow-pitch league went down without a hitch yesterday. The Crilly Cruisers got off to a HUGE 1-0 start to the season with a win against the Mavericks. My non-inquisitive self didn't find out what the score was in the end, but we did pretty well, including a big six-run inning in the third.
It was quite laughable, since Corey volunteered my services to drum up the batting order for the team. Man, it had been absolutely ages since I thought about batting orders, since there is sort of a science to it in baseball. It is sort of scary as well, 'cuz you can never be too sure about politics and the possibility of the ol' "why did he put me down so low" behind the back chatter. It's always something I'd care to avoid. Anyways... my scientific formula for drumming up the ball line-up found one bunch of the girls together in the middle-bottom of the line-up and Dallas & Kirby didn't show up until late... so the whole science of batting orders was more of a first come, first serve sort of order. Fortunately, the bats worked all the way around and we won!
My slow pitch line, which is formulated a little-less harshly, was 4 for 4, a double and 2 runs scored. Everyone played exceptionally well too... I think we can have ourselves a winning team in the league this year. Kevin and I were chatting after the game and had both agreed that losing Todd and Mike this year wasn't going to hurt our chances at all... rather the contrary. Todd's pitching did cost the team a few games in the season... so, we all had a pretty good time without the stress of losing runs and just sheer disappointment.
The mosquito-laden, unraked ball diamond was a little depressing to play on, but it was the first game of the season, so it wasn't really complaining worthy. Actually, the mosquitos were complaining-worthy, since the swarms were already huge.
After the game, it was to the Wildfire with Benny for a few. The best thing about getting back to Langdon is that I don't really get away from the guys. Jeff and Jay stopped by the diamond on their way back to Jeff's place. So the social circle remains... hopefully they'll all come downtown this weekend.
As of right now, I don't have any plans for the weekend... it won't be very long for me as I will be working the Monday. The US May Long Weekend isn't until the weekend after, for Memorial Day, which I get off and everyone else has to work. Yay! I'm pretty sure this weekend, however, will be a mix of sunshine, rollerblading and beers, in no particular order. I'm hoping to meet up with a bunch of people... first come, first serve... ha ha. Jen's going away to Church Camp this weekend... so I'll have the whole top level of the house to myself. Giddy up.
Anyways... I have a couple filings, including that Technical Report this morning to do. I saved it for today, since I work at my best first thing in the morning... and when things are due. I also have a trial filing for that new company that Brydon is wooing. It's finally here and it's only 30 pages, so that'll be interesting. I have to doll it up a bit so I can attract the client. No problem! Otherwise, the slate is clean for filings today... I'll probably end up with a few news releases and such... so, hopefully I won't be back playing Pogo Bowl... online bowling. It's actually kind of fun and somewhat challenging... especially to bowl a strike.
Sorry about the lack of pictures lately... I haven't been too determined to take many. I shall be soon. This weekend should spawn a few shutter moments.
