How 'bout an Apple?
It's been an unremarkable last couple days... hence the lack of posting. I would come up with flashes of some theory that I would write about, but I just haven't had the desire to really pound out the paragraphs.
Tuesday was relatively quiet at work... until the big contract that I was working on for a couple weeks came back with their proofs and I wasn't terribly impressed with they came up with. This company had hired a bunch of students (studying who knows what) to proof this 600+ page document for errors, both the document's content and then formatting. It was a mish-mash of scribbled horror all scanned into PDF form for my pleasure. If that was what was behind Door #1, I would have hated to see what I could have walked away with.
I didn't really touch it much before taking off for the day... I thought I would get a fresh start for it for the next day.
The evening had me goin' to the Wildfire to drop off the first printed out copy of this new season's hockey pool. I thought I would go down for a couple, see who was down there and drop the sheet off. Well, it was pretty quiet when I got in there... Shelley was the only girl working in the bar and she was as friendly as ever. They had Friends on the TV when I was hoping for some sporting event of some kind... there was baseball AND hockey on... I was slightly disappointed. Greg came out to say hi and then he finally turned it to the Kings/Coyotes game, but by that time, I was pretty much ready to go after my couple of pints.
I did get home in time for the 9th inning of the Angels/White Sox game, which wasn't a bad finish.
Today, I tackled the big undertaking. I clocked it in at 8:03 to start the job and I finally finished up my day at about 4:20... I was gonna count how many pages I reviewed, but I really couldn't be bothered. The job had me scratching my head all day, since I could really tell that there was a team of people working on the file over the last couple weeks. There was no continuity between any of the exhibits they wanted to file, even between the similar ones. One proofer wanted one thing that the other didn't care which way it went. It was rather aggrevating. This client is also a new one, so Brydon, one of our Sales guys, was on the phone with me on various occasions, to keep him posted. The lady who we were dealing with was pulling her hair out, because she's only the "middle-woman" of the whole deal, between her client and us. I did one other filing today, but that was only because Lee couldn't do it on his computer... when he was nice enough to do a filing that may not have been done on time today.
Meathead was working on his own projects... swearing and cursing away all day. "Fuck this," and "Fuck that." "Why doesn't this fucking program do anything right?" Constantly... all day. He doesn't whisper either. I've now started to just give smartass replies to his rhetorical questions, which probably winds him up as good as his swearing does me. It's not the swearing itself that winds me up... its just the frequency and volume that he does it in and gets me... and it's not just me either. I've seen Lee shake his head a couple times as well.
The biggest chuckle came this afternoon when he came across an error in filing his project for the day. He tried to put his HTML file into the SEC template for filing, but it found that there was a closing HTML tag in his 5,000+ lines of code. It was a tag, which is an editing tag which comes over from Microsoft Word... well, there was probably more than 1,000 of these
To that I decided to reply, "oh, don't sound like such a defeatist," chuckling under my breath.
"Why did you just call me a fetus?" he asked quickly. I paused for a moment wondering if that was his clumsy comeback of sorts... but no, he asked again, "Did you just call me a fetus."
Well, that was it for me... I couldn't help but laugh out loud. I looked out to the front of the office where Lee was sitting and he rested his head on his forearm, which he placed on his desk. He was having a good chuckle at that comment's expense as well. "Why are you laughing?" he asked.
I did tell him after a minute or two of laughing... he's sure a Meathead though. Ha ha.
After work today, I headed to Joey's for a well-deserved beer and a view. It surprises me why I go there so often... the amount of times I could fall in love there is torture to the ol' heart strings, I'm sure. This ol' heart is getting colder and bitter for every bit of torture I put it through... it has to be. Well, Sarah was working again today... and well, she's the fox of the bunch of them at the moment. She's quite friendly and good at what she does as a typical employee of the Earl's/Joey's chain of restaurant and lounges. She'll keep me as a customer with her friendliness and good memory... fantastic.
Then... that was pretty much it. 2.5 beers later... the ride had arrived and it was back to Langdon. Watched a good portion of the Angels/Sox game tonight, watched the Predators come back against the Avalanche and saw that my Canucks got thrashed by the Minnesota Wild tonight. Fudge!
Tonight, Fiona Apple is singing her heart out for me on my MP3 player. I did buy her new CD, "Extraordinary Machine," (don't know if I said that yet or not...) and that's pretty good. Tonight though, I'm listening to "When the Pawn..." which is just too clever of an album. Man, she can be playful and mad at the same time... I would sure love to have her around for a while to see what she's really like. I bet she'd be a good intellectual challenge for the best of us. I even managed to get her on my MySpace friends list. She definitely ranks as one of my favourite female singers... and I do like a lot of 'em... for their music.
Fine, don't believe me.
For a guy who had a slow two days, I sure stretched this entry to the max, eh? Well, I think Fiona and I will head to bed... not tonight, dear... just sing me to sleep.
