Guess Who Out of the Blue
3:48am, Saturday morning
As I was enjoying my early to bed sleep on Friday night, I was woken up by the sound of my phone receiving a text message. If I don't pick it up, then it keeps making it's stupid little hooting noise every minute or so until I read the damn thing. It was right beside my bed, so I lifted my tired head off the pillow and opened the flip.
I couldn't believe it when I saw it, but it was Barb's number up on my display. I had long since deleted her number since I didn't think I would ever hear from her again. I thought I had sent enough stupid text messages confessing way too much to scare her off for good. Nope... it's almost 4am and she returns a text. Granted, she's probably been drinking a good deal by then... good for her... but there it was.
I didn't reply right away. The state I was in though, half-asleep and dreaming, sent my head for a good spin. The hamster was now running like a demon on its wheel and I couldn't really fall back asleep until I had replied to the text message.
The gist of the messages were that she apologized for it being too long since we had last chatted, that her phone broke and/or she still hadn't figured out how to use it properly. I was sure to try and take away some of the blame from the lack of contact. I was still half asleep and I hadn't realized that she could have been or probably was kinda drunk at the time. I didn't get a text back to my reply until after 7am... which probably wasn't too much better. Ha ha.
I was in udder shock though. I couldn't believe that she'd come back and talk to me. I had contacted her a couple other times during the day on Saturday and then she contacted me again yesterday afternoon and we might try and get together one of these days. She had said 'that she wasn't sure if this week would work. But you never know.'
I suppose there's something to be read into that... if it does happen this week, maybe she'll start making time for me, something that was kind of lacking in the weeks leading up to the disappearance. I'm trying not to get ahead of myself, but there are also steps in place to try and keep myself from doing something similar to what happened before. But that's all for a post later on today.
