No Fireworks, But Day Off

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingSunday afternoon was for Superman Returns. I went down to Chinook to meet Jeff and Benny for lunch and the flick. I got down there fairly early, since there wasn't a lot goin' on around the house.

I drove down to Chinook, tried to call the lads, but both weren't picking up their phones, so I just bought my own ticket for the IMAX cinema to watch the show and then went for a look around. I picked up a couple shirts that were on sale at the GAP and went back to the car to change into one of them and then head over to Joey Tomato's for lunch, as per the plan.

The guys finally called and they had arrived at the mall a little later than planned, since they got caught in construction and traffic on Glenmore on the way in. They got to the theatre only about 20 minutes after I got there and the IMAX show at 3:15pm was already sold out. This was closer to 2pm... which really sucked, 'cuz I already had my ticket. So, they got tickets for the 4pm show and we had lunch.

Lunch, another cruise through the mall and we had to get to the theatre early to get some decent seats. I was gonna take my ticket back that I got for the IMAX, but you wouldn't believe how busy the line-ups were for the theatre, period. It was elbow to elbow at the ticket counter and they only had 2 of 4 tills open. The Guest Services desk wasn't even open, so I swallowed the $13 loss and that was it.

Well, its fair to say that Superman Returns is visually stunning. You know it was going to be a lot more sophisticated than the Christopher Reeve flicks, but it was not only more sophisticating, it was somewhat believable, which is the most important point. It was also quite humourous as well, which I really enjoyed. I found myself laughing at the old references and cliche jokes, which was also quite good. The plot was okay, but there was something that was lacking... or the complication of the love story was a little too much. It is worth seeing on the big screen though.

Jeff cracked a great joke near the end of the film... but fortunate/unfortunately I won't ruin the film, but I can't tell the joke either. But we tried our best, the three of us, not to kill ourselves laughing after the joke was made.

After the movie, I convinced them to come down to Kensington for a couple and we came down and hung out at the Yardhouse for a while. It was sure dead there... holy moly. We got there around 6:30pm or 7pm, and man, was it dead. We sat out on the patio for a while, before the sun went down. Mike joined us a little later... then Jen showed up as well. She had been dying to meet these guys since I talked about them quite often. We had moved inside after a while and then Natasha came and joined us after she finished off at work.

She had sat beside me, awfully close and she had brought me an extra cupcake from work... which I still have yet to actually eat. Can't say I'm all that intrigued by the sweets, but she hung out with us for a while. But our closeness really set it off with Jen, which I was pretty sure she noticed.

We didn't stick around the Yardhouse for too long, but we all went back to the house for another beer. The lads got to meet Costas, which to no surprised freaked out a couple of them, but Benny was in there like a dirty shirt... but he's a real dog guy anyways. Yeesh... what an ugly dog.

Monday was a very quiet day. I didn't want to get out of bed yesterday... at all. I got up once at like 9am for a drink of OJ, but went back to bed around 9:30am for another hour and a bit. I thought I was absolutely exhausted for some reason, nor did I want to make any reasons to get out of bed. But once I was out the second time, I watched a little telly and then turned on some tunes when I wanted to make myself something to eat.

Chris finally got his ass up and we just hung out for most of the day... not drinking! I didn't even have one drop at all yesterday. Chris and I went over to Safeway in the early afternoon, I picked up some more juice and pop, we played some crokinole for a while, him beating me in the best of three match, which took a couple hours. We then went for a walk to the Husky station on 14th street and picked up a slurpee. That's pretty much it. Honestly... it was such a dead kind of day. By the evening, Chris had gone downstairs to play some poker, I came in, watched some TV, surfed the net a bit... just was super lazy. Jen came home around 9:30pm-ish from her Mom's BBQ and then we had both gone to bed around 11pm.

And this morning... well... here I am. Watching some Wimbledon on TV, waiting for Natasha to get a hold of me. We'll probably go watch some of the Germany/Italy match somewhere, since it's on Sportsnet and we don't have it here at the house. I'm thinking of getting into the shower here soon and then maybe doing another article or something for the Pool site or the Canucks Rush.
