Canada 7 - Italy 2
Gotta love that 4am wake up call... I'm sure yawning like a bastard... now that the game is over of course.A lucky break for Canada was that they got scheduled with Italy for their first game in the tournament as the legs on the team were not really below them for all 60 minutes, rather the first 45 or so. The defense was a tad suspect, but the passing was pretty decent and Martin Brodeur was pretty solid in net, despite letting in two goals to the weaker Italians.
There is no reason for Italy to feel bad though... another strong performance against Switzerland or Germany could yield an upset win.
The Big Big Bert watch shows that he earned a pair of assists and the second star (according to the CBC) this morning... he looked pretty good. He didn't have many scoring chances himself, but setting up both Jarome Iginla and Brad Richards and cycling well in the corners made him look really good.
Although the Olympics isn't my favourite tournament in the world (the World Juniors kick ass!!), I will still get up for these guys any day of the week! I think I will have to get up really early once next week too. Tomorrow, the Canadians will play Germany around noon our time.
