Some Were Grossly Misinformed

The New Pornographers played to a half-full MacEwan Hall last night... which was kind of subdued, but they played... and it was pretty good. It was kind of a shame that the place wasn't any busier, but what can ya do?? They got some of my favourites in... the Bleeding Heart Show was fourth in the list and was marred by some feedback from a microphone on the drum kit... but it was rectified for an excellent version of Bones of an Idol... which sounded great, despte the lack of Neko Case again. The encore, of four songs, were all from Mass Romantic... which are great tunes, including Execution Day and the Slow Decent Into Alcoholism... awesome. What a finish it was. I was really impressed.

There were two opening acts... the first Novillo, Barb and I skipped... choosing a couple drinks instead. I think I had seen them the first time they were around in February. They were alright... a little bit bland in their brand of pop was what I got from the beer garden inside Mac Hall. Fortunately, the other band in front of the headline, Immaculate Machine, was an impressive talent. Kathryn Calder, the female lead in the band, was a highlight for Barb... and then it was pleasant to see her play with the Pornographers in lieu of no Neko. The tunes were so impressive, I bought both of their discs... I'll be sure to get a copy to Barb, because she did enjoy them as well.

I forgot to post this with the new Hip CD on it... so there's the new table with the 2006 purchased CDs. Unfortunately, Frazy does have the other Immaculate Machine CD, Transporter... just Ones and Zeros. I'm giving Transporter a listen right now... I'm really enjoying it.

The evening with Barb... I know you all want to know... that's why you're here right? Where is everyone? Ha ha. I know, this is just gonna be me coming back in due time when I'm reflecting... ha ha. Well, the evening was pretty cool and collected. Barb, the sleep-deprived girl that she is worked a shift during the day and then came and met me afterwards. It's always great to see her and it was good to catch up over a few drinks and such. Neither of us really extended ourselves out too far last night... rightly so, I'd imagine. We talked about everything under the sun again and she was letting me know what she's been up to and I, the same. It was re-assuring that I had already come to the conclusion that I couldn't really pursue her and even after the whole evening had ended I was still pretty sure of it. Even with a few drinks in me. I gotta say... I was pretty impressed with myself about that. I won't make a huge effort to keep in touch... I know I will get her a copy of the Immaculate Machine stuff, but otherwise... I'm not going to try and crack her schedule. Sure I'm interested... but my patience is not that good... we all know that.

It was good to be in around midnight... still the alarm clock woke me up way too early. Ha ha. I put off getting up for as long as possible. Everytime I was sort of ready, I heard Jen milling about and going into the bathroom, so I continued to put it off until I knew she wasn't in there, rather just leaving as it was.

I was out the door nice and early this morning... and thankfully I did. Coming across Deerfoot on Memorial, there was like a four car wreck... a good pile up with a Jeep crunched pretty badly from the rear. It was starting to bunch up the early commuters... when I was driving up Memorial, all the emergency vehicles were passing by. That's another thing... Calgary drivers are so disrespectful to the emergency vehicles. They're almost treated like other drivers... driving to work really quickly with flashing lights. It's not that they're going to rescue the hurt and helpless... rather just as another commuter. How sad.

Happy C&C Monday. Have no idea about the band, but then I am older than dirt.
