The Last Weekend: Chapter 3
Find beer! Find beer! Find beer! That was our mission. We wanted a side-street pub that we could sit and have one. Both Lars & Aaron were getting peckish and even though I had lunch with Neil at Yates's, I could have nibbled on something.
The first pub we could find was The Cock in Oxford Circus. Talk about a photo op, eh? Unfortunately, they only sold ales and lager was what we desired. So instead we walked down a little further and found another pub. I wish I could remember what it was called... damn details! We sat for one, took some funky pictures of ourselves and went on a mission to find some food before reaching the Tottenham Court Road tube station to get to Camden for the World's End.
A BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat journalist was on the street and wanted a quote from one of us, so I stepped up. Why not, right? It was funny as well, because the topic of discussion was that the government is to take VAT off of condoms and she asked for my opinion as to if kids would use them more if they were cheaper.
Now, it's rare to have a lady stick a microphone in your face and ask you about condoms in the street in London, so I was a little taken back by the whole thing. I stumbled and stammered for a bit and she asked me again if it was right for the condoms to be cheaper and my response was that they shouldn't cost anything at all. I think I was on the verge of actually going into a rant about not having to pay for sex in general unless it's prostitution, but I bit my tongue and cut the quote off early. I must have sounded like an idiot... ha ha ha!
A quick stop at McDonalds and then to the tube station. We arrived in Camden for about 3pm-ish. It was very quiet in the World's End and we managed to sit on one of the couch's upstairs.
Beer, bullshit & pictures. That pretty much summed it all up and there was lots of each to go around. Barry arrived about 4:15pm and Lucy wasn't too far behind him. The group had grown to six! More beer. More bullshit. More pictures. Awesome.
Then the plan was to meet Rob & Jo at the Maple Leaf in Covent Garden for around 6pm. When did we arrive? Oh my... 6:39pm. Ha ha ha... that's good stuff. I'm sure Lars called ahead, we just wouldn't be late, would we? Nah...Much to my delight at the bar, Sleeman's Honey Brown was on draught and there was a fit barmaid there as well. Ahhh the sweet Honey Brown taste... I think it was fair to say that it was enjoyed by all.
We ended being in the Maple Leaf for a good couple hours. I can't remember how many beers there were downed, but it really didn't seem like we were in there for quite that long. There's lots of pictures and video footage from the night, which I'm copying at the moment of publication of this entry.
It was really great to see Rob & Jo as well. I was quite flattered that they'd show up and see me off in my last night in London. It's easy for them living in London, but the effort is really appreciated.
After an uncounted amount of Honey Browns, we then went off to our last stop of the London evening, Bar 38.
